The unofficial vote counts on Sunday night showed that Mr. Pien Keesin won the Patong Mayor seat for another term. Mr. Pien receives 3,826 votes, overcoming his opponent Somkiat Kuru by 577 votes. Mr. Pien just finished his term in May and re-ran in the local election along with his team ‘Love Patong’. Eleven candidates under his team managed to win the council member seats while seven from Mr. Somkiat’s side got elected as council members. 68.49% of eligible voters came out to exercise their rights for the local election on Sunday, more than the election commission expected at 60%. The provincial election office will send the result to the central Election body to certify within 30 days. Building a tunnel linking Kathu and Patong is among Mr. Pien’s policies he vowed to pursue during his political campaign before getting re-elected.
